Acute Academic Intervention Mathematics (A2IM)

A2IM is designed to develop students’ mathematical and algebraic habits of mind by utilizing key ways of mathematical thinking that bring focus and coherence to their understanding of concepts and content. The program aligns with the Standards for Mathematical Practice, aiming to shape students’ thought processes to demonstrate competence in mathematics.

A2IM offers an anytime/anywhere approach to math learning, emphasizing real-life fact fluency and providing rigorous practice to meet advanced State Standards. Through adaptive, accommodative, and modified practice, A2IM enables students to achieve fluency more quickly and efficiently, accommodating their individual learning needs in their own environments.

As students transition to algebra competence, A2IM continues to support their development by reinforcing algebraic habits of mind. This approach not only aligns with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) but also prepares students for advanced mathematical challenges by strengthening their foundational skills

Calisthenics: STRETCH-The Mind-To-Mastery

STRETCH-The Mind-To-Mastery is an anytime/anywhere math recognition program focused on real-life (life-to-learn) fact fluency and more rigorous practice designed to meet more advanced Common Core State Standards. These standards include inverse relationships, recognizing unknowns, multi-digit operations, associative and commutative properties, number composition, and fact and vocabulary families. Students achieve fluency faster with adaptive, accommodative, and modified practice that can happen anytime/anywhere in their own sphere.

SHSAT

SHSAT: Gameatics Approach

Seeing it (Concept Modeling), Playing it (Engaging), before Doing it (Writing). Gameatics engages students on their comfort platform (gaming) to build confidence in performing future-ready tasks. Mathematical practice now involves writing a story about the game. Once this task is complete, we can do the inverse operation, which is writing what we will play.

Increase Student Scores

Conceptual Understanding:

  • Use Concept Modeling to help students visualize mathematical concepts before practice.
  • Encourage breaking down complex problems into simpler parts to understand underlying principles.

Engagement through Gaming:

  • Leverage students’ interest in gaming to make learning engaging and relatable.
  • Use interactive games aligned with SHSAT topics to build skills in a fun way.

Storytelling in Math:

  • Integrate writing exercises where students write stories involving mathematical problems and solutions to reinforce concepts.
  • Encourage students to explain their problem-solving process through storytelling to aid retention and understanding.

Practice and Application:

  • Provide ample practice problems that mimic SHSAT question types.
  • Use timed practice sessions to build speed and accuracy under exam conditions.

Inverse Operations:

  • After writing stories about games involving math problems, have students create problems from pre-written stories to enhance critical thinking and application skills.
  • Encourage students to think in reverse to understand problem structures and develop versatile problem-solving skills.

Regular Assessment:

  • Conduct regular assessments to track progress and identify areas needing improvement.
  • Use formative assessments, such as quizzes and short tests, to provide immediate feedback and adjust learning strategies.

Adaptive Learning:

  • Implement adaptive learning technologies that adjust question difficulty based on student performance, ensuring continuous challenge at the right level.
  • Personalize learning paths to cater to individual student strengths and weaknesses.
